Advice for a younger me

(And my daughter)

Practice patience, not everything needs to happen right now. We don’t know what the future holds, but we do know that we can stand tall and make it through anything.

Rain is wonderful! It cools hot days, feeds the plants and trees, providing life – then… Beauty! Every rainbow is a gift just for you.

Boys—- they’re boys. You have to weed out the board ones to find the one who will love and appreciate you, sometimes it can take a while. A MAN will treat you with kindness, he will stand up for you, and he won’t break your heart once a year.

Work hard – play harder! Love your career – know when to turn off to enjoy the better things in life. Take a walk, go for a run, dance in the rain, swim in open water… Just take time to take in all of the beauty in this world.

It’s OK to cry – just let it out. It will feel better than trying to hold it in. Those tears fall when you have been strong for so long, they need to release that pressure you hold with in. They will cleanse your soul.

Pet all the animals! Take time to tell people that their pet is cute. Animals teach us about love and life way more than people give them credit for. They teach patience, and unconditional love. They teach us how to care for not only them, but ourselves. Never trust a person your dog doesn’t like, they’re a better judge of character than you think.

Never be ashamed to love fiercely, but be prepared for people to take advantage of that. Figure out a way to protect your heart, but not build a wall.

And now that I am older (not necessarily wiser) growing up does not mean that you stop having fun. Stay young at heart. Find fun in little things, crack a joke, make a mess, play a joke. Just laugh – life is too short to not have a good time with it.

And most importantly – Find a way to love yourself. Buy yourself flowers, get a massage, take yourself on a date. Just find time for you.
