What is your favorite animal?
This sounds so… cheesy, but I love all animals! I have been caring for animals ever since I can remember. From the time I was little, I can recall cleaning and fixing “boo boos” on my family’s pets, standing up for them when they were threatened and rescuing stray animals, bringing them home and asking to keep them. I have always stopped to ask to pet people’s dogs, snuggled with a passing kitty on the street, and enjoyed watching the wildlife just doing their thing.
I love sea life! Fish, mammals and coral are all so intriguing! I love to snorkel and SCUBA, seeing these beautiful creatures living and thriving all under water while I am moving virtually weightlessly, gliding over and around them is something that I can’t quite describe. It’s a feeling, a freedom, and a love of mine.
Living in Colorado, I have the fortune to observe so many different species right in my back yard! We see deer, coyotes, wild turkeys, ducks, geese, herons, beavers, hawks, eagles and so much more! A short drive out of town and up into the mountains, we see even more raptors, mountain goats, sheep, elk, and wild cats. All of these make my heart happy, hiking and running trails I sometimes get the sneak peek of this amazing wild life and think how blessed I really am to live and play in such a beautiful land, and call it “home”.
Farmlands surround us, seeing and getting to interact with horses, goats, chickens, and other critters makes me giddy like a little kid! I have memories of feeding the animals on my parent’s little farm. I was four almost five when we moved to the suburbs, so my memories of the farm are few but lasting and I still recall a funny story or two from those days.
As I grew up (and older) I have always had pets in my home, dogs, cats, birds and fish. I even took my love of animals great and small to the next level, and decided to become a veterinary technician. My pets are all very spoiled and well cared for. At work, I care for the fur babies of other people, advocating for the best for them, holding them close when they are scared letting them know that everything will be ok, and even comforting them in their final moments when some choose to not be present. I love my career and while I have been in practice for 20 years, I am getting tired and definitely don’t bounce back like I used to, I wouldn’t change it for the world.
Over all, my favorite animals… are mine! I have had several pets in my life, and every-single-one has been my favorite! I will continue to spoil my fur babies rotten, and make sure that their lives are full and wonderful.
