Hi all! So last week, I talked a bit about planning and a bit about balancing my family and sport. Well, the DAY AFTER my post, I was chosen for a Ragnar team! So, I guess the planning has begun, I have the training plan all set up to get me through June… and now, I find out about the Marine Corps Marathon adding an UltraMarathon option!

Wait WHAT??? My idea of going ultra earlier in the year didn’t work out due to scheduling conflicts with my son’s wedding. He pulled the kid card and asked me not to run an ultra the day before his wedding. So being the good mom, I didn’t sign up. I am ecstatic that my son is getting married, but was a bit bummed about finding another ultra that sparked my interest. I was already looking at the sign up for next year on this crazy trail run. Almost like “the run gods” knew that I have been lamenting over another ultra. I get this message today about the Marine Corps Marathon opening up an ultra, on the same day as the marathon, that starts near the 10k start, then winds into the marathon start to throw down miles on the same course I know and love. The best part?! It will count toward the MCM runner’s club membership! So, yes, I am totally geeking out about this new adventure into “Ultra Land” and yes, I am excited and nervous all at the same time. I love this excited feeling so much, and I look forward to planning my “A-race” for the year! Washington DC – I’m coming back to see your beauty again!
Next Steps:
Well, the planning will continue. Now I get to research road ultra training plans and put it to paper along with nailing down the nutrition for these longer runs! I know it sounds insane, but this truly is one of my favorite past times – planning for adventure!
Sleep tight, my friends. Have a wonderful week and stay warm!
